I love your take, but I will take it a step further disagree that Bella’s childhood was not normal. She was parent unified went through instability and put in positions as a child shouldn’t be put in like paying the bills and making sure the house was running. I think when you’ve gone through a childhood like that, it makes sense to look for a dynamic in which you’re the one being taken care of versus a more equal dynamic.

I think it could be interesting to relate this to the the books that Bella reads. Bella reads Wuthering heights, Romeo and Juliet, and several Jane Austen books are referenced. All of these have class elements to romance as well

my problem is that Jacob didn't understand boundaries and couldn't take no for an answer for him no just meant maybe or a hidden yes whereas Edward never pushed Bella like that but he didn't accept she had a different opinion than him about what she wanted for her life (become a vampire). I think in the end neither of them were good partners since Edward didn't respect her wishes and Jacob didn't respect her boundaries
