Here are the most common reasons why you can’t bring yourself to quit your job and/or break up with your partner. 1️⃣ You like being miserable. You blame your job/relationship for being unhappy but deep down you know that it’s not your job/relationship-it’s you. Because you got a new job and you’re still unhappy. That’s because happiness is an inside job. No matter where you go, there you are. Happiness starts with you. It’s a choice you make. 2️⃣ You don’t know what would make you happy. You know this job isn’t right for you but that’s all you know. Well, congrats. It’s great that you know what you don’t like but now you need to get to work figuring out what you do like. If you feel stuck it’s probably because you haven’t done the work to figure out what you do like. “No wind is favorable if you don’t know to which port you are sailing.” 3️⃣ You tell yourself that all jobs/relationships are bad. You think that the devil that you know is better than the devil that you don’t. That’s a real pessimistic approach and it comes from your mindset. The grumpier you are the more assholes you will meet. The amount of good things in your life is solely based on your ability to notice them. Stop telling yourself that everyone is bad and see how many great people you meet. 4️⃣ You tell yourself that you’re keeping yourself safe. But perhaps you’re just not a risk taker. Putting yourself out there to get what you what scares you, so you tell yourself that all jobs/relationships are a lot of work. Just know that you are your only limit. You can tell yourself that you’re keeping yourself safe or you can tell yourself that you are holding yourself back and leaving money on the table. Both things are true. 5️⃣ You’re imaging the worst-case scenario. We get better at things the more we do it. If you’re not a job hopper and stay at places for more than a few years you may only have to quit a few jobs in your whole life. So of course, you’re not great at telling someone you no longer want to do this job or be in this relationship.
