I'm convinced that this is everyone's experience who had a narcissistic parent who taught you lessons by making life hard on purpose. like thanks, all I did was learn life is hard 1000 times and now I have arthritis in my early 30's

I got charged rent as soon as I got my first job. Worked all through high school trying to save up for a car and part of me was hoping all the money I paid for rent was secretly being saved up for me….. nope. Bought my first car a week after graduating. Month later got told I need to get my own place. Was very fortunate that a buddies family took me in no question and gave me my own room and everything. Was an amazing experience. I got to see what a real family was like.

If i have kids i plan on charging them rent the moment they start working. HOWEVER, they won’t realise that money will go into a pot that i’ll give back to them when they want to move out. This teaches fiscal responsibility but doesn’t punish them for that lesson.

also wouldn't hurt to stop making them feel like they need to work starting at 10. entire childhood was erased by the anxiety of being a burden.

my mom told me since i was a little child that since i didn’t work for our money i didn’t deserve any of it and i should be grateful she paid for my living expenses. now i have no idea how to deal with money cause i always feel guilty and wrong spending it no matter what.

I started paying rent at 16 🥲🥲 my friends lived rent free, had college paid for, given their first car etc. I left home at 19, spent 15 years in debt just trying to survive. And now my friends all have homes and kids… and they asked me why I never had kids 😐😐 ummm I had to actually pay to exist 🥴
