![Loneliness is the state of a lonely person. It is the state and feeling of a person experiencing communicative isolation from others, a breakdown in social connections, and a lack of meaningful communication. Within this concept, two different phenomena are distinguished : positive ( solitude [English]) ,English solitude ) and negative ( isolation , English loneliness or isolation ) loneliness, however, most often the concept of loneliness has negative connotations [ source not specified 692 days ] . Loneliness can be a cause of mental illness [ 1 ] , a socil problem and even a cause of suicide [ 2 ] . The problem of defining loneliness stems from the diversity of interpretations of this concept among different researchers: a feeling of loneliness and social isolation; a painful experience of forced isolation; and a voluntary solitude associated with existential searching. The feeling of loneliness serves a regulatory function and is included in the feedback mechanism that helps individuals regulate the optimal level of interpersonal contacts.
