@childocdtherapist: Some people with OCD become convinced they have the power to prevent bad things from happening. Not because they actually believe they are magical. But because OCD creates a false sense of responsibility. “If I don’t do this compulsion, something bad might happen.” “If I think that thought, I could cause it.” “If I don’t repeat that phrase, I won’t be safe.” The compulsion might look logical in the moment, but it only teaches OCD that the compulsion was necessary. The more someone listens to OCD’s rules, the bigger OCD’s world becomes. Recovery isn’t about proving the feared outcome won’t happen. It’s about learning to tolerate uncertainty and resisting the urge to perform the compulsion, even when OCD insists it is necessary. If magical thinking OCD is taking over your child’s life, I have an entire podcast episode on how to help. Go to www.natashadaniels.com/psp407 #ocd #ocdproblems #ocdrecovery #ocdawareness #childocd

I often can’t sleep at night because I’m soooo worried that if I fall asleep something awful will happen. My body literally won’t let me fall asleep no matter how hard I try. It just truly feels like I might die if I fall asleep, it’s horrible.

i totally get the not taking a sip of water thing. its like if I take a sip of water it will dilute the meaning of the words in my mouth, kind of like how they say to not eat or drink anything for at least 30 minutes after brushing your teeth 😭

one big thing ive learned is that the options for bad things can be anything. Not just things like death or illness. it'd just thats idea that something you do/think/say can prevent or jinx you. As an sa survivor i used to think if I thought a man would do something id jinx it and wouldn't want to leave the house that day. These are amazing educational videos just always remember if you feel like you might do these things and might have ocd ask a professional. She does not claim to diagnose you shes just sharing different ways ocd can present itself.

Nobody the first :
I thought I had it as a child, but over the years I repressed those feelings so that today only some of it happens
