When your bank card is charged in the local currency, the card issuer — Visa, Mastercard — uses their own exchange rates which are much more favourable. . On top of that, if you use a card that does not charge additional fees like a foreign ATM withdrawal fee or a foreign exchange rate fee (often 2.5% per transaction!) you can really save as much as possible. .
