collective punishment is one of the biggest reasons why people are not enlisting or reenlisting in the military these days. people do not feel like being punished for the actions of a single individual who 90% of the time will escape punishment. especially because a lot of those times the person who's caused the initial issue is a teacher's pet to one of the commanding officers. they have to look like they're actually disciplining bad behavior so they do stuff like this. when in reality ask any soldier most of the time the person who actually causes the most trouble gets little to no punishment.

I got this call from my gunny when I was still student status. Wasn’t supposed to be in a POV, out of NC state lines and I was down in Florida about 7 hours away. I made that trip in like 4.5-5 hours and climbed the gutter to the second deck for the 1stsgt to inspect us because of a shituation in Lejeune
