Those who were able to afford college were able to "dodge" the draft. Those who also had connections could join the National Guard, where they did not qualify for the draft and therefore "dodged" it as well. That's actually how George W. Bush (an American president) got away from the draft. Then, the part where USA hits away the Hammer and Sickle is to refer to the fact that those who opposed the draft were actually a minority (really only Americans who had just graduated from highschool, as they were in the age group the draft required). Many older generations supported the draft, as they saw it as a price to pay in order to contain communism (see Red Scare + containment idea + Domino Theory). Many Americans who fell under the requirements of the draft saw the it as unfair-- some of them couldn't drink yet, couldn't vote for the politicians sending them out yet, or even know where the hell Vietnam was on the world map. This was the cause of the rise of the anti-war and hippie movement. The civil rights movement (desegregation/voting rights) was also happening during this time, and I want to make a video on that too. Hope you enjoy!!
