you’re absolutely right, but as an NRI we are a minority and we are bullied, especially the kids. We are already seen purely for our racial stereotypes and it’s only gotten worse in recent years. We owe nothing to anybody for the image of our country especially with what we as a former colony have been through. But it doesn’t make it easier living in other countries. There’s only so much we can ready our kids. I’m a first gen immigrant and my parents didn’t know what to do to prepare me for racism since they grew up in India and were dealing with other issues and didn’t go through any racism per se, so they never did prepare me or know how to handle it… every child takes this stuff differently. It’s something that affects a lot of people for years. Decades even. In some places around the world there are gangs designed to target men with paghs and women with pottus. It was bad during the Windrush era in the UK and now it’s going back to that. I hated myself growing up and would lie about my ethnicity as much as I could. I had no friends because ie as raised in a white predominant neighbourhood and I am a darker skin Indian , it wasn’t easy… so yes we don’t have to owe anyone anything, but letting white people profit off of showing specific kinds of regions of our country as they suffer while immigrants who just wanted a better life, also suffer on this side of the world doesn’t help either.

My hot take is I prefer all the nasty racists staying out of India and continue their belief in that it’s a horrible country as opposed to to India being so oversaturated with racist tourists like Thailand or Japan that think they know more about the country than the actual locals.
