@bymuseum: A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte (1884–1886) By Georges Seurat 📍 Art Institute of Chicago Everyone is together, but no one is truly connected. At first, Seurat’s painting looks like a peaceful afternoon by the Seine. Families rest in the grass, boats drift across the water, couples walk, and modern Paris seems to be enjoying its free time. But look closer. Nobody really interacts. The figures feel frozen, distant, and strangely mechanical. Even the fashionable couple on the right seems trapped inside a performance of status and appearance. That is what makes the painting feel so modern. Seurat is not only showing leisure. He is showing people learning how to display themselves in public. The park is full. The silence is emotional. 👉 Follow @bymuseum for vivid stories and hidden meanings in classical art.

我记得当我第一次看到这幅画的时候,我问了一个很好笑的问题,但当时我真的很认真的问别人,为什么她的屁股那么大😂作为一个孩子,我百思不得其解

Today is hardly different. Being staged is the central preoccupation of an entire class of people , but also cuts through classes and ends up on here or the gram.

George Seurat went blind from his art because it was made of small dots.

from Google: "Many art historians and critics interpret the monkey in Georges Seurat's A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte (housed at the Art Institute of Chicago) as a symbol of prostitution. The Symbolism of the MonkeyLinguistics: In 19th-century Parisian slang, the French word for a female monkey—singesse—was commonly used as a derogatory term for a prostitute"
