I think the value in what Kevin is saying is that he was able to forgive his father. His father wasn't there, and he was raised by a single mother. What stood out to me was when his father tried to apologize, and Kevin basically told him, "Don't worry about me. Just focus on your grandchildren." They don't know the version of you that me and my brother knew. What I got out of that, and what I tell my community all the time, is that at one point our parents were just a boy who became a man or a girl who became a woman. A lot of times we only see them as Mom and Dad, but before that they were people trying to figure life out just like everybody else. Some of them had to become adults way too early and under some really hard circumstances. That doesn't take away from anybody's pain, but sometimes it helps you understand the person behind the parent. That's the gem I took from what Kevin was saying.
