no generalization of asian and wasian communities is not valid and generalizations of any community never should be. yes a child died and thats horrible. you cannot say oh were boycotting asian businesses when ur shirt is probably from china, you are on tiktok a Chinese app. If ur gonna boycott all asian businesses then get off this app and get rid of everything asian. Two things can happen at once cyrus should have justice and we should stop asian hate because if anything, boycotting businesses from one specific race IS indeed racist. Stop trying to fight racism with racism to divide us even more than we already are #speakingfromtheheart

This is difficult for me to understand. It sounds to me like you are saying boycotting a group of people is okay based on the actions of 1 person. is this correct?

id like to input a bit more nuance to the situation. let me make it clear that i understand why black communities will choose to value their safety over picking and choosing which businesses to boycott. with that being said, should anti-blackness in east asian communities lead to boycotting ALL asian businesses? do you think it's fair that nail salons (majority of which are ran by VIETNAMESE people who are SOUTHEAST asian) will be taking a hit as a result of these boycotts? or the mom and pop shops ran by immigrants/low income communities? the problem isn't the boycotts--and in no way do i condemn them. the problem is the generalization of ALL asians being anti black. this generalization is objectively harmful and divisive towards all parties.

And the fact that he isn’t the first case of this happening is exactly why people are choosing to boycott too

rick chow's verdict should not have came out as not guilty as his actions were based on racially motivated violence however generalization should never be justified towards any group of oppressed minorities. especially on our timeline and on tiktok its way too common that racism has been fought with more racisim which only further divides us rather than getting justice for cyrus carmack, eina kwon and similar victims

it’s ridiculous to hold an entire community accountable for the actions of one person. obviously what he did was terrible and awful but generalizing the entire community will only promote prejudice. during stop asian hate, asians received violence from every single race but we didn’t call for boycotts against specific communities and instead we advocated for peace and solidarity with our fellow pocs. and while i can understand how people can say that’s a very privileged standpoint to have, history has repeatedly shown us how systems of segregation and discrimination benefit from turning ethic groups against each other. why is it that dispite all the hate and violence that the maga/white community has brought upon pocs, asian businesses are called upon to be boycotted instead?

you are a breath of fresh air. i dont think people realized if black people protested in any other way besides boycotting they would be called violent.

without a doubt, anti-blackness is a generational issue within asian american communities and its so disappointing to see how little our culture has changed from our parents. i do not believe that cyrus’s case is the sole reason for the boycott, but rather from black people being fed up from years of racist behaviors and violence they faced from us asians. i do not speak for black people, but it’s clearly implied with the mentions of another case with an asian aggressor where it was racially motivated (i forgot the name sorry!)

And yet, we’re allowing maga white businesses to thrive. Sounds to me like we’re not focusing on the real villains bc it’s easier to go after the low hanging fruit.

people keep thinking about this boycott in a broader perspective. if someone as an Asian owner of a business that especially thrives in Black communities and are offended by this talk of boycott, do you really know your customers? were you really there for the community or were you just there for only the money? i imagine Asian business owners who have loyal Black customers implies there is a bond between the two and conversations can be made. otherwise, there was no genuine relationship to be begin with and it is up to the owner to really make effort of being a welcoming presence
