As I lay dying put me off Faulkner. It was like listening to 20 strangers on a train. Did not like it at all.

I read As I Lay Dying when I was in college roughly a 100 years ago (😂) and I still think about it. I highly recommend it!

The Sound and the fury is his greatest work. However, Light in August is nearly as great but a much easier read.

I think you would like Light in August most. It's excellent but not wild stylistically. As I Lay Dying + Sound & the Fury are both modernist, stream of consciousness. Great, but rather hard to follow, even in comparison to AA

I used to teach as I lay dying in my college American lit class. It was a book students could get into. They really liked it.

I ageee. Quinton was a wonderful character especially for the time Billy wrote it. Sound and the Fury took some brain contorting to read. I hear that people moved to Absolom, Absolom after “Sound” due to Quinton. In whole I always snicker when people talk about Faulkner. I believe in his talent, but I think he is sometimes put in a level with Twain, but shouldn’t be.
