I do have control over my children though. They are their own people, they have their own thoughts and desires, and they are allowed a certain level of autonomy because of that; however, and the end of the day my wife and I make the final decision what they are and are not allowed to do. They are their own people, but they are children and children do not have the mental or emotional maturity to decide what is best for them the vast majority of the time. Are job is to protect them not only from the world but also from themselves

I mean. I agree. That's not what parental rights are though. Parental rights are mostly being able to make decisions for your child until they are old enough to advocate for themselves.

Yeah, someone needs to check your hard drive (especially because of your 🌶️link). Kids’ brains aren’t fully developed (even up until the age of 25 to some extent) with their maturity with the prefrontal cortex and here you think they can actually make informed consent on their decisions. Are we sure you’re not on your town’s registry, not being allowed within 500 yards of schools or babysitters?

The job of “Parent” should be to teach and support the child in whatever they want to do, even if its not socially acceptable. As long as its not illegal or dangerous or causing anyone harm and if what they want to do something dangerous like sports or something, then your job is to help them do it as safely as possible by equipping them with the tools, knowledge, and wisdom they need.

My parental rights are non negotiable. I'm here to protect my children and help them grow up to be stable, kind, confident adults. My kids will always have my respect, but the boundaries are set based on their conduct.

children deserve their own privacy and rights, parental control over children is important but any control should be for the benefit and safety of the child not to benefit the parent. an infant needs an adult to do basically anything, a child needs space and trust to learn and grow.
