Plastic surgeon Peter Grossman is testifying today in the punitive damages phase of the trial over the Iskanders' wrongful death lawsuit. Grossman's wife Rebecca Grossman, is in prison for hitting and killing young brothers Mark and Jacob Iskander in a crosswalk in Westlake Village, California, on Sept. 29, 2020. Grossman is a nationally prominent plastic surgeon whose father founded the Grossman Burn Foundation. The jurors that awarded $176 million in compensatory damages on Wednesday saw video of lawyers for Karim and Nancy Iskander questioning him in depositions, and he testified in person for the first time as the jury considers possible punitive damages against his wife and her ex-boyfriend, retired Major League Baseball pitcher Scott Erickson. "Your wife killed Mark and Jacob Iskander, didn't she?" asked attorney Brian Panish. "My wife was involved in the accident, and she is bears responsibility for that. I don't particularly care for the word kills," Grossman answered. "Your wife was driving a motor vehicle that killed two youths while she was over the legal limit of alcohol, correct?" Panish asked. Judge Huey Cotton overruled an objection and Grossman answered, "No." "No? Your wife wasn't over the legal limit of alcohol?" Panish asked. "I do not believe she was over the legal limit of alcohol, sir," Grossman answered. "Have you watched the trial?" Panish asked. "I have watched the trial," Grossman answered. "You've watched the trial with your wife, haven't you?" Panish asked. "No, sir," Grossman answered. "You haven't been on the phone with your wife watching the trial by a live stream?" Panish asked. "No, sir," Grossman answered. "Do you talk to your wife every day about the trial?" Panish asked. "I do, sir," Grossman answered. "And you and your wife talk a lot about the proceedings that are happening here at the trial, don't you?" Panish asked. "Yes, sir," Grossman answered. "And you talk about me all the time for many years in your conversations, didn't you?" Panish asked. "We've had conversations about you," Grossman answered. "And your wife, and you have called me an ambulance chaser. Isn't that true?" Panish asked. "I don't recall me calling you an ambulance chaser," Grossman answered. "Your wife called me an ambulance chaser, didn't she, sir?" Panish asked. Judge Cotton overruled an objection and Grossman said, "I don't have that recollection." Panish asked if the Grossman have discused "preventing Panish from getting control or access to all your assets." "We talked a number of things, and I believe that may have been a conversation," Grossman answered. "Is that a yes?" Panish asked. "Yes," Grossman answered. "In fact, part of your scheme and plan was to transfer assets so the Iskander family couldn't collect from your family, correct?" Panish asked. "No," Grossman answered. "Because you went to lawyers, and the lawyers told you how to protect your assets so they couldn't be attacked by people that you owed money to, correct. So you didn't rely on lawyers to create all these trusts and transfers documents? You did that all yourself?" Panish asked. "I don't believe that was your last question.
