Almost 12 years as an obesity doctor who lifts… and people still don’t believe this: 1. Cardio isn’t the driver of fat loss. You can out-walk almost nothing. An hour of cardio might burn an extra 300–400 calories. One distracted meal can wipe that out. Cardio is great for your heart, mood, and longevity. But fat loss is mostly about intake control (and muscle preservation). If you’re exhausted from workouts but not seeing progress, it’s probably not because you need more treadmill time. 2. The scale can be a terrible progress tracker. Water shifts. Sodium. Carbs. Hormones. Stress. You can do everything right for weeks and the scale won’t move. Meanwhile: • Your clothes are fitting better • Your strength is improving • You are seeing changes in the mirror Scale weight can be deceiving. Use a variety of measurements Body composition, health, and consistency matter most. 3. You don’t need to eliminate food groups to lose weight Carbs aren’t inherently the problem. Fat isn’t the issue. Sugar isn’t the devil. Total calorie intake matters most. Focus mostly on foods that are filling with fewer calories. You don’t need to completely eliminate treats. Weight loss isn’t about suffering more. It’s finding a way to eat fewer calories while staying fuller and not miserable
