@beaconpostpartum: “The loneliest I’ve ever been was 3:53am holding a baby in a dark house. Until I saw I wasn’t the only light on.” 🌙💛 I think one of the biggest surprises of motherhood is how lonely it can feel. Not because you don’t love your baby. Not because people don’t love you. But because so much of motherhood happens when nobody else is around to see it. The 3:53am feedings. The rocking chair marathons. The pacing. The cluster feeding. The endless cycle of feeding, changing, soothing, and trying again. The moments where you’re physically touching another human being constantly, yet somehow still feel completely alone 💔 Those are the moments nobody really prepares you for. Especially at night. Because nighttime has a way of magnifying everything. The exhaustion feels heavier. The worries feel bigger. The house feels quieter. The loneliness feels louder. A thought that would barely register during the day can suddenly feel overwhelming at 3am. “Am I doing this right?” “Why am I struggling so much?” “Why does everyone else seem to have it figured out?” “Am I the only one awake?” And honestly? That last question might be the one moms ask themselves most. Because when you’re sitting in a dark room holding a baby while the rest of the world appears asleep, it really does feel like you’re the only person awake. The only person feeding. The only person pumping. The only person trying to stay awake long enough to get through another night. But that feeling isn’t reality 🤍 At that exact moment, there are thousands of other moms awake too. A mom in Indiana. A mom in California. A mom in Australia. A mom in Canada. A mom across town. A mom down the street. A mom you’ve never met who is holding her baby the exact same way you’re holding yours. Trying her best. Just like you. That’s what makes seeing all those lights so emotional 🌎✨ Every dot is another real mom. Not a perfect mom. Not an influencer. Not someone who has everything figured out. Just another woman navigating one of the hardest and most beautiful seasons of life. A woman who is tired. A woman who is worried. A woman who loves her baby deeply. A woman who is doing her best with what she has. And when you realize that, something shifts. The night doesn’t feel quite so heavy. The loneliness softens. The pressure eases. Not because your circumstances changed. But because connection changed them. I think that’s something we all need more of. Less comparison. Less pretending. Less pressure to look like we’re thriving every second. More honesty. More vulnerability. More moms saying: “Me too.” Because the truth is that motherhood was never supposed to be done alone. Humans were built for villages. For support. For community. For other people who understand. And maybe that’s why seeing those lights matters so much. They’re a reminder that somewhere out there, another mom is awake with you right now 💛 Feeding. Pumping. Rocking. Scrolling. Praying for sleep. Doing her best. Just like you. So if tonight feels lonely… If the house feels too quiet… If you’re holding your baby in the dark wondering whether anyone understands what you’re carrying… Please know this: There are thousands of moms awake with you. Thousands. And every one of those lights is proof that you’re not doing this alone. 🌙✨🤍💛 #mom #baby #MomsofTikTok #momtok #momlife

The cloistered Norbertine Sisters are a group of nuns that rise every night around midnight to pray, a dedicated “motherhood hour”specifically for exhausted mothers awake in the dark with their babies.

I’ll never forget how lonely I was during these hours w a newborn. My saving grace was on the weekends, my neighbor’s husband stayed up all night gaming on the weekends. I could see his light on from my nursery. Saved my life 🫶

this makes me want to cry. I remember being in the newborn trenches. Tired as can be feeling like I was the only person in the world up while everyone else was sleeping 😭🥺

Not the same at all, not trying to be, but when we had our first, she wouldn't latch to my wife, we were really, really struggling and felt totally and utterly alone at 2am in the UK trying to get her to feed. I ended up phoning a breastfeeding support clinic in the US for help. The woman was amazing and I'll never forget that kindness as she talked to my sobbing wife, and helped her get a latch on. 🥰

I use to sit and look out the window and spot the other houses with lights on, always felt comfort that I wasn’t the only one awake

I wish this existed many years ago. Although I knew other moms were doing the same, each one of those little lights would have represented a blind camaraderie

My husband always got up with me. I know that doesnt work for everyone but him laying on the floor of the nursery while I fed our baby made me feel so much better.

This is actually so awesome. I felt so alone with my first. I would always look out the window to see if anyone’s lights where on.

I remember a pediatrician that told me to wake up my baby to feed her every 3 hours, it was exhausting, then I changed the pediatrician and he had more modern views and he told me there was no need to do that, to just feed the baby when awake. it changed everything.
