An old mentor of mine told me the best way to overcome the habit of oversharing is to stop narrating your life in real time. She said to put a delay between living something and sharing it. Post vacation photos after you’re home. Tell people about a promotion a week after you get it. If something good OR bad happens to you, sit with it for a few days before letting anyone know. Honestly the root of oversharing is usually seeking validation for what you’re doing. When you put that delay in place, you’re teaching yourself how to self validate. You sit with the win and feel proud of it on your own before anyone else gets to react. You process a bad day before you reach for someone else to confirm it was hard. Over time you stop needing the external response to make your own experiences feel real, and that’s when the oversharing habit breaks.

Very private person here, bumped into a childhood associate & he told me that I need to open up & be more open so I did that & he went & told my cousin some about me when I didn’t want her to know. I wanted to tell her when I was ready. So with that being said, it made me realize being private is definitely important to me.
