@art_rki: Someone just asked if I write my art purchases off on my taxes. The answer? Nope. Art Rookie isn't a business that makes money and I’ve never even thought to set it up as something like that because it's a project that costs money so from a tax perspective it wouldn’t work. But it's also the thing I'd be doing if I didn't have to work for money in the first place (even though I still do…) I just decided to start it on a sustainable scale while still working my regular job because it seemed fun and challenging and intellectually stimulating and I was cranky that there was no coverage for “mere mortal” art collectors. I was already paying to go to art fairs, talking to collectors, visiting galleries, and I decided to just turn it into content because I genuinely love learning about art and helping other people feel more comfortable collecting it. Not everything has to become a side hustle. Sometimes it's enough for something to be meaningful. And if this ever turns into something that makes money? Well… all that will just go towards a bigger project that supports artists my husband and I are dreaming of. #ArtRookie #ArtCollector #ArtCollecting #ContemporaryArt #ArtWorld
I hope all goes well, from a perspective of somebody who’s always worked 2 to 3 jobs, I really started looking at a lot of Art in the past two years, I finally put brush to canvas, I have to say if I didn’t have to work anymore I would definitely be painting. The amount of stress it takes off my shoulders to sit stare at a piece of canvas and do whatever is the best therapy I’ve ever had.. I know that doesn’t help in the actual conversation being had but I just wanna get my input.

Just wanna throw this out there! The Art Spread is an arts nonprofit + online gallery and artwork purchased through them DO count as tax-deductible purchases as they are a public charity!

I know in Canada, if you have a company, you can write off art that you buy for the company. I’m sure there is some sort of reasonability test though.
