Well, they don't see you as a separate person. They see you as an extension of themselves. Let's take a look at the video: When the child says, "Mom, I'm showering," they're implying: "I'm a separate person." "I have privacy." "I didn't consent to this." When parent responds with: "I'm your mother. Do you know how many times I've seen you naked?" They’re saying “You're not a separate person.” “You don't have a right to privacy.” “Your consent is irrelevant.” A lot of people might read this and think, "oh come on, she's just getting the soap." But think about what this teaches the child long-term. Imagine how easy it is to take advantage of someone who has been told and shown their entire life that their “no” doesn’t matter.
