I was helping a family with their kid who ended up with an autism diagnosis. School was insisting that he wouldn’t handwrite and work with the young woman OT because he was stubborn. I said no, it’s because he’s embarrassed to write like first grader. He trusted me, so I had him try to copy some words from a piece of junk mail. He struggle to make the letters. I said what happens between the time that you see it in your head and your hand goes to write it? He says it flips around in three dimensional space and sometimes lands wrong. He said, it’s like when I was a kid and the grass and sky would reverse and I get so scared – and my mom would put her hands on my shoulders, have me close my eyes and breathe, and then I’d open my eyes and everything would be in the right place. That is some serious visual processing disorder. And he and his mom really didn’t understand the significance of this.

Sometimes pulling info from my brain and pushing out of my mouth comes out wonky or word recall stalls. Aaaannnndd 60% plus with these can have adhd.
