@lllllooooo13: Jesus never used the word ‘Trinity’ either, yet Christians recognize the doctrine from Scripture. The same principle applies to Apostolic Succession: the term isn’t in the Bible, but the pattern is.

but it seems to me the 12 branches, off the vine, Christ, may have started 12 different succession orders, not simply Peter.

Matt Dennis506 :
Matthew 16:18 is the only time it is used like this. Every other time in the Bible it is either accompanied by Simon or a variation of ὁ Petros, τῷ Petros, αὐτῷ Petros, Petre, or Petro. There is always a way to make Petros singular or to make it unique to Peter. Also there is size differences between Petros and Petra in the verse to make it even more separated from Peter. Petros is a small pebble compared to Petra a unshakeable rock or cliff. So this would fall more in line with Orthodox teachings of Peter’s confession and not Peter himself since it was used as a small pebble and not Peter.

There was no pope in the modern Catholic sense before the Great Schism. The bishops of Rome held a place of honor among the patriarchs, but they did not possess universal jurisdiction over the entire Church. The early Church was governed through councils, not papal decrees. The later claims of supreme authority and infallibility represent an expansion of power that the apostles, the early fathers, and the ecumenical councils never recognized. Primacy of honor is not supremacy of authority.

not just priest or pastor, we all have priesthood and come to God by our self: “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2 : 9 NIV

The apostles do not have successors. There is a succession of bishops, not apostles. There was no bishop that had the same authority as any apostle. If there was they would be called apostles.

Timothy was never called an Apostle. Paul was the last Apostle: 1 Corinthians 15:8 (ESV) Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.

Thanks for sharing. Some truths are explicit, some implicit. Some you have to induce through meditation, surrounding circumstances and characterizations in the story line. The Holy Bible is filled with these. Some of The triad and trinity principles in the Holy Bible highlight the awesome and integrative mysteries of our faith:God the Father, the son and Holy Ghost. Jesus Christ, who came by blood, water and spirit of truth etc. The omnipotence, omnipresence and omniscient attributes of God /Jesus Christ are triad mysteries .The apostolic succession mysteries are implied in words of Jesus Christ: The glory the Father gave me, I gave to them… I will not leave you without a Comforter…….These expressions point clearly to a succession and transitions plan and connected mysteries. No wonder the Apostles began to manifest the promises of Jesus Christ in signs and wonders after the resurrection- conversions, speaking in tongues, healing of the sick etc . A clear testimonial manifestation of Apostolic succession mysteries -as promised and prophesied by Jesus Christ even before his death and resurrection: If you have faith …..greater things you will do… The Body of Christ continues the Apostolic succession mysteries in all nations today ,even after the resurrection of Jesus Christ-an everlasting succession mystery !!!

There was no direct apostolic line of authority or succession in the Bible from the head Apostle Peter to Catholicism for this instance. This line of authority was lost after all the deaths of all the apostles. People was lost and built their own church and choose their own leaders.
