I’m in Montana. Shorts and tee shirts sweats and hoodies throw in a rain jacket. Sandles and slippers lol. You may wake up to 80s and go to bed and it’s 30s. Welcome to Montana!!! We get all season in one day!

I used to carry that mental load as well. When my youngest was about 6, I started a new method. I have a word checklist with boxes, and I update based on where we’re going and how many days. I give each kid a checklist. They pack their own stuff in our suitcases. 1) they actually wear the clothes we bring. I had found I’d pack stuff they decided they didn’t like when we got to the destination. This put them in control. 2) they learn what needs to be taken on trips 3) it’s taught them how to pack. For example, separating clothes between two suitcases and taking a change in carryon. 4) I carry anything important. I do NOT double check their packing. They have a list they check off. If they forget something, I can stop at a store and grab it because I am in charge of the important stuff (medicines etc.). They’ve actually learned from forgetting things and they don’t do it again. Last week one of mine said, “remember when we got to X and I’d only brought shorts and no pants?” It’s taken such a mental load off me and I feel like gives them control. I also don’t get blamed for brining the “wrong” shirts.

Best tip I learned with a family was to ditch the luggage and use 5 gallon totes!!! Clothes and shoes in one and other stuff in a second tote

As a Montanan, pack a little of everything. You may wear your parka in the morning and shorts and a tank by lunch then back to a hoody when the sun’s down.
