Answer: The pivot point is the point about which your ship rotates when turning. Going ahead: Pivot point is about 1/4 to 1/3 from the bow. Going astern: Pivot point shifts to about 1/4 from the stern. Why important: The stern kicks out. Know your pivot point or you will hit the berth, buoy, or another ship.
