@ivy_roadmap: If there’s the checkbox, they are NOT need blind. Colleges are business — they need to meet financial quotas. They have limited capital, meaning they can only accept a limited number of students who need financial aid. But they can accept as many students who are willing to pay full tuition. That is so interesting. So here's a question: can you check the box on some college applications and uncheck it on others? Or is the same answer to the question go out to every college that you apply to?

I have always said this but people keep arguing with me. If they are actually complete need blind, why do they even need a complete breakdown of how much you need even before evaluating you (CSS and ISFAA) and how there is always a similar percentage of students every year with full fund. Do you mean the same percentage of low income students apply? Or similar percentage every year are qualified?

Petrichor&Gloaming :
It's not just the checkbox - most of the top 25 require you to complete your CSS profile to 'complete' your application.
It's not just them knowing about needing aid or not but it's them knowing upfront most every detail of your family economics. Agree they are a business and this goes into their calculations for aid budgeted for the year, but it's not 'need blind' it's more need choosy.

Need blind should also disallow essays that indicate any economic hardship, or affluence. DEI is disallowed but it’s skirted with personal statements about race and sex linked experiences.
