@pfinley1982: Unpopular Opinion: If a company expects senior technicians to train new hires using their personal tools, there should be a dedicated fund to replace tools that get lost, broken, or "accidentally adopted" during training. Hear me out... A trainer is already giving up something valuable: Their time Their experience Their productivity Their patience Now add in the fact that trainees are constantly borrowing meters, probes, hand tools, thermometers, gauges, leak detectors, and everything else that magically disappears into a van somewhere. At what point does that become the trainer's financial burden? If a trainee loses my tool while I'm helping them learn the trade, why should I be the one paying for it? Maybe shops should have a training tool budget specifically for replacing tools damaged or lost during the training process. Or maybe trainers should stop lending out their personal tools altogether. What's the answer? If you're a trainer: Have you ever had a tool disappear while training someone? If you're a manager: Should the company cover it? If you're a trainee: Did you ever lose something that belonged to your trainer? Let's hear it. #CommercialKitchenChronicles #FoodserviceEquipmentRepair #HVACR #SkilledTrades #CommercialRefrigeration ๐ Drop your thoughts below. Who should be responsible for replacing the tool? The trainee, the trainer, or the company? ๐ฟ๐ง

When I was a trainee in this field I was very respectful of tools. I also had been working with my dad doing electrical side work since I was eight years old. As somebody who is a trainer, I feel if something is damaged due to the negligence of the trainee the company should pay for it. As a field service manager/senior tech/project manager/oh shit send that guy because nobody else can take care of itโฆ. The company should absolutely cover it. The company I work for will replace tools and this instance.

Oh man I had a long discussion about this. Impact and drill broke when training a guy. They would have never broken if I didnโt let the bosses new employee use them. I donโt make money off of that employee, he does. I f they donโt replace them they should have loaner tools for new employees.
