@hollywoodhistory: TO BE CLEAR: The Academy Museum owes me nothing. The opening is simply a joke about the absurd amount on influencer videos that came out right before opening. Many from accounts with an audience that would have zero connection to this exhibit. I would not agree to blindly praise anything in exchange for an invitation ever. The Academy Museum's Marilyn Monroe exhibit is now open. It's a great chance to see some of Marilyn's iconic costumes, even if you have to battle the glare of the glass. The Academy Museum’s Marilyn Monroe exhibit is now open and offers an opportunity to see many of her most iconic costumes through the glare of extremely reflective glass ❤️#museumtiktokcontest #filmtok #hollywoodhistory #marilynmonroe #oldhollywood
Whyyy haven’t we figured out the lighting?? Why is no one readyyyy

They told me in November they will have an exclusive Laika exhibit, so I’m looking forward to that!

The pink gloves aren’t the original either, the real ones were two tone with lighter palms.

Worked on the European exhibition of her ‘Mr President’ dress, pre-Kim K and minus glass glares - forever grateful!

I fully understand if it’s from a preservation standpoint regarding the lighting, but I do NOT get the horrible glare. It bothered me immensely when I visited

I hate that the pink gloves aren’t the original and they didn’t even try to recreate the light pink palms.

As an Academy Award buff and big time collector, I agree with you about the museum.

I enjoyed the exhibit. Sadly, Disney+ has completely ignored Marilyn’s 100th birthday. There are no films on that streaming service even though Disney spent $70 billion to acquire 20th Century Fox.

PSA for anyone watching you can get free tix through the LA library if you have a card. I have a museum membership and it’s definitely worth it for the screenings and Q&As and when I have out of town guests but I also find the museum itself underwhelming for what they charge tbh.

In my opinion it's also not great that they are profiting economically from her when they never bothered to recognise her talents with a much deserved prize. One can sense Wilders' frustration in that telegram, but after all the heartache what remains is what is on film and that is wonderful and timeless. He even went on to say his aunt in Vienna could have done a better job at learning her lines and being on time, but then who would pay the ticket to go see his aunt? Good job!

Goodness I really wonder how does someone get it right to be so intensely famous that even at the year where she would’ve turned 100 she is still recognized so much.

I agree about how disappointing this museum is—“big empty concrete rooms”sum it up. My sister was visiting and I took her there—one whole floor was closed, the room with the Oscar winners’ outfits, the print on the signs describing the clothing was so small, even a 20/20 vision couldn’t decipher it, one floor closed off. I apologized for taking her.

I toured the Academy museum in early May. It had an underwhelming, unfinished feel to it. I also agree that the rooms with the costumes were too dark. I plan to go back again though to see the Marilyn exhibit now that I’ve seen your post.
