@louisethompson: Just a reminder that your life saving medical device is NOT nasty and does not need to be hidden away or fill you with shame !!! I know that bad characters do and say horrendous things in tv scripts ALL THE TIME, but given that stoma bags feature so infrequenly it feels quite jarring and a little upsetting to watch. I’ll admit I’m very well adjusted, but I’m really doing this post on behalf of younger Louise. Imagine you’re 18 years old, you’ve just had a stoma surgery, you google it to find out a bit more and THIS is what shows up. It’s not gonna make you feel good at all. Hmmmm. Obviously I’m biased and sensitive to the intricacies of stoma life but what do you think? If I was naive and had never seen one before i think I’d be fairly influenced. X #stoma #stomabag #euphoria #ibd #ulcerativecolitis
Louise i don’t disagree with you but this is the exact thing you did a few weeks ago on your podcast in relation to sen children at school. You laughed at children not being able to feed themselves or use the toilet independently.

I don't have a stoma bag so realise I can't know how someone like yourself would feel hearing/watching that..but would just like to say him saying that was very inline with his character. He wouldn't have looked at it and said "oh a stoma bag, good for you" his character isn't a nice guy and doesn't say nice things.it wasn't a scene supposed to be about uplifting people, it was just showing again what an absolute horrid character he is..I do understand where you're coming from though 🫶

I think it’s incredibly important that you’ve spoken about this - I know my partner, as an ostomate, will appreciate someone in the community championing him when he feels unable to himself. You’re completely right when you highlight how important language is when we’re seeing representation for the first time. I think the shows producers really had a responsibility to the ostomy community when choosing to include this in the storyline, and that was completely overlooked. It’s so important that we’re able to see positive representation first, before a bigger conversation can be opened up. I’ve seen so many people use the excuse of ‘oh well Alamo’s not supposed to be a nice character’ as if that justifies irresponsible use of creative license - there was a simpler option available, to not include this in the storyline so that ostomates who are survivors become simply a punchline. Thank you so much for speaking about this 🤍

Thankyou for using your platform to talk about this Louise🥰 ..the rage I felt when I saw it. Especially because I saw it the first night I was out of hospital for a crohns flare up. When I came back of the ledge and calmed down I used my time the next day to reach out to anyone I came across on TikTok that were due to have a stoma fitted or are in progress of having the surgery planned to offer my support and advice if they want it (I’ve had my stoma 12 years now) and I think that’s what we need to do combat it, we keep the stigma down ourselves and we build our own community. The media will always do things like this for shock factor and punch down. But i completely agree I was 19 when I had my operation as a emergency to save my life I could not imagine how I would of felt if I saw that back then it would of

I do not have a stoma bag, but would like to say thank you so much for using your platform to speak about this subject, and normalising it, also giving people more information. I have learned so much from you, and I really would be so much more helpful and understanding towards anybody with a stoma. Keep speaking you are helping so many people x

I totally agree with everything you said lovely 🤍 having a stoma bag myself and watching the episode before seeing the backlash I was initially so happy to see a stoma be featured on such a huge show, and to me I didn’t think much of Alamos comments at the time because that is his character. It was only afterwards I thought how shitty that actually is if it was someone’s first time seeing a stoma or seeing that if someone was awaiting surgery. 🥺 because stomas shouldn’t be hidden away at all! Life saving devices should be celebrated, always 🥰🤍✨ xx

I resonate with everything you’ve said. As someone with a stoma, before I had to have emergency surgery two years ago my biggest fear being diagnosed with Crohns nearly 9 years ago was one day having to have a bag. A lot of it was thinking about other people and their perceptions. The language used was really distasteful and I think that sort of language only adds to the stigma. If the producers wanted to show how horrible he is, there’s other story lines they could’ve done.

There acting in character. It’s meant to be road and animalistic in the sense of how they see things like stoma bags or scaring from life saving surgery. The writer wasn’t considering the feelings of those that have those in the real world and likely feel highly different but they were writing roar material and the actors were in character making it believable for those watching. Again likely feel very different in the real world

You called scars horrendous twice in this video. YOU said horrendous. How do you feel about your use of the word horrendous to refer to scars?

Yeah but it's true to his character in the show. Hopefully you'll never come into contact with anyone that resembles Alamo in real life!! Alamo isn't gonna say oh a stoma bag, how are you doing with it? Drug dealer /traffiker, murderer, pimp of women sex traffiker, owns strip joints.
