It’s so much deeper than just being petty. She was so in love and inspired by this boy that his favorite things became her favorite things. She had to find a way to keep loving these things and artists without this boy and was able to produce works of art with Robert Smith himself. Collabing with him captures the album concept so perfectly.

I hate this narrative of painting Olivia as petty when every song she put out so far is just her saying Louis actually loved her & their love was real & deep… there’s also that one interview where she says that this album is less of “fuck you.. u hurt me” like she had written in her teenage years; and more of “oh u did this but i also did this and it’s kinda both of our faults… and many points in our love journey lead to this outcome” kind of mature, more nuanced & layered take of true love falling apart that she admitted she wouldn’t have the ability to write in her younger days…

I don’t think it’s necessarily petty and it’s actually the complete opposite since this was supposed to be a love album for him and she said she made some changes last minute so originally this is supposed to represent him and their love so I think referencing the cure so many times was more of a sentiment than like a payback
