We were so happy to drop off Spud for his jaw and dental surgery today but it was short lived. Soon after the long trek back home we got a call saying we needed to come pick Spud up right away and take him to the ER. His preop bloodwork was exactly what we expected, slightly high white blood cells but nothing too concerning. However his bloodwork now at the ER is showing that the hypotension he experienced during anesthesia has caused an acute kidney injury and ultrasound was able to confirm this. (Our surgeon is very experienced but this can unfortunately happen with any dog, especially the older guys) What we were not expecting to see during the ultrasound was an inflamed pancreas. We opted to test for pancreatitis even though he’s asymptomatic (very rare) but shockingly he has that too. Spud is going to receive around the clock care at VCA Murrieta for the next 3 days to support his pancreatitis and kidney recovery, costing $5,700 of the $8,000 that was supposed to be for his jaw surgery 💔 The oral surgeon also had to charge us for bloodwork and X-rays before this ER visit too. We’re deeply saddened that we’re starting at square one again and especially sad for Spud who can’t catch a break. The stress is almost too much but we have to keep fighting for him no matter what life throws his way. I know we’ve already asked for so much and you all came through for him in such an incredible way but we still intend to complete Spuds jaw surgery once he’s healed from pancreatitis and his liver enzymes are stabilized again. He has low quality of life without this being addressed- we can’t just opt out of this. If you can, please help us rebuild his jaw surgery fund by visiting our website located via the link in our bio. You can also donate via PayPal&Zelle with our email lets.rescue.dogsLA@gmail.com or via Venmo with username LetsRescueDogs (please beware of scammers with similar usernames)#toktik #dontleaveme
