If you’re annoyed and get mad that they keep bring it up, imagine how mad and annoyed they feel remembering it. Just bc you apologized doesn’t make it right

in the most respectful way possible dont know why the comments are disagreeing :/ this is how i feel about cancel culture actually. i think its very important to understand that we all are not perfect beings, and we are going to make bad decisions, as messed up as that sounds. i think we need to stop using the statements “you’re xyz years old you should know better or” “i grew up with bad parents and even i knew not to say this” because its just insensitive and gives a superiority complex in a way. a lot of people expect you once you turn 18 to know everything about social norms. we have to keep constantly learning through human interaction. everyone is entitled to feel how they feel when they’re hurt. “actions have consequences” yes absolutely but whats not okay to do is put them on blast to other people, because that is exposing a vulnerable side of them and can ruin their life forever, and thats not a good look on your character either. someone cannot change their behavior when there are insults being thrown at them constantly, because there is a difference between holding someone accountable and just plain up insulting them. (this statement does not apply to p*dos btw.)

An apology isn’t real until the behavior that caused the apology has changed

if someone apologized and took accountability and the other person accepted their apology and forgave them. bringing up that past mistake over and over again is just a dick move

Apologies are worthless if you don’t change if the behavior is the same your words versus actions don’t match and until the do they will continue having an issue simple really

Nah she’s right, if you apologize to someone, mean it, and change, you’ve done your part. It’s now up to that person to forgive you and move forward, or separate from you, there’s nothing more you can do after a sorry and someone changing, don’t accept the apology if you’re not willing to move past it, people change and you have to accept that

Respectfully that’s just not how it works. Until the other person feels safe after what happened you kinda just have to care for them and consistently show them you’ve changed.

respectfully some of yall are immature, if a person makes a mistake and apologized and takes initiative to fix their mistake, bringing it up just to make the person feel bad and guilt trip is also bad. if it’s not something that can be solved then the mature thing to do is part ways. obviously each situation is different and doesn’t apply to all situations

you can’t expect someone to not feel hurt about something just because you apologized. it takes time for people to heal after being hurt.

i agree that apologies should be accompanied with actions, but can we also agree that it is disheartening for every single past mistake to be brought up every time. it’s like ur put to such a perfect standard that your attempts to change are useless.

no literally, they bring it up to the point they start being mean about it and disrespecting you because how the situation ended up. i take it because i know they’re hurt but it also hurts me that i have to get called a horrible person and get disrespected because of what i did but i understand they’re feelings. but on my side, all i wanted was to be understood, not disrespected.

Apologizing doesn’t make up for it. Imagine how they felt when you did it and imagine how they feel when they keep remembering it and it keeps popping up in their head

No hate to you love but, mature enough people either could let it go or keep bringing it up depending on how much hurt you caused them. My ex and me still talk and she still brings up things after I apologized but, I don’t get mad. I let her express her feelings and let her get what she needs to get off her chest. Patience is key, always be patient with the person you love!
