@ultrabasicmetamafic: Hey guys, welcome back to Geology with Emmalee! Today we are talking about drop stones and stratigraphic up! Stratigraphic up is a term that geologists use to describe the orientation of rocks. It refers to the younger deposits being on top of the older deposits. There are lots of stratigraphic up indicators, such as cross bedding or laminations, scour marks, drop stones etc. dropstones are rocks that have been imbedded in sediment or in this case, ash. The weight of the rock on the soft sediment or ash causes the sediment or ash to deform and squish, which you can see around the rock! It’s all pretty neat! - #geology #rocks #stone #volcano #earthscience
