@thruhikers: The first time we dehydrated hundreds of meals for a 4.5 month hike we thought the electric bill would be through the roof. It wasn’t. Now we know why. 6.16 kWh per load. $0.1856 per kWh (US average electric rate). ~20 meals per load. 6.16 * 0.1856 = $1.143 per load. $1.143 / 20 = $0.06 per meal. Not bad. Next up: freeze dryer electricity cost test! #electricity #mealprep #dehydrating
As a fellow engineer, this is such an engineer thing to do

What is the sauce binder for? Is it sample or do you actually use it?

That freeze dryer plus dehydrator up front cost. Plus food plus storage containers for hiking plus then electricity. The up front cost get you if you aren’t using them consistently but the other is relatively cheap.

But how much for your dehydrater? Needs to add in the cost of both appliances until that cost is covered

add in the amortisation of the equipment at lets say projected cycles before it pays for itself 1000 or like 1500 or you can do by years of waranty but to get per meal you have to know the amount of meals in a year
