I think some animals do know that humans can not only help them if they’re in trouble, but will actively seek out a human being to help them when they’re in trouble. Think cetaceans.

I think everything has the ability to become conscious, especially if it’s been around a really long time or the more complex things the higher the self awareness. Life is beautiful. I don’t consider humans superior to any other being on the planet, so this is very logical and common sense way to look at things

It's submission. There's little they can do when stuck. After they realize it was friendly help, they realize it and are grateful. That's what I think.

Well first off animals know who you are… and I don’t mean what we call each other I mean on a deeper level… However I think they smell fear and other emotional pheromones on us when it’s not a rescue situation. I get closer to wild animals I’ve never met before compared to what other people usually can do.

I saved a poor squirrel that was stuck in a huge water bucket that was for the horse's and the poor squirrel must've climbed down the fence to get a drink of water and accidentally fell in. IDK how long it was stuck there trying to stay above water, but it was completely exhausted once I helped it out. I only knew something was wrong because my dog was with me and began barking like crazy at the bucket and I went to see what was wrong. I grabbed a tree limb that had fallen from a nearby tree and placed it next to the little thing and it immediately grabbed hold and began to climb out. Once out, it just laid there for awhile and I was so worried that it might still die, but it just needed to rest. I made sure nothing could grab it while it was still so vulnerable and it eventually recovered and went on its way.
