@britinfinland: Another great find in Finland… public rug washing stations are completely free to use. 🇫🇮 What surprised me most, though, is what happens after the washing. People leave their rugs here to dry for the entire day and come back later fully expecting them to still be there. If you’re Finnish, you might be thinking, “Well, of course, why wouldn’t they be?” 😄 But coming from the UK, this level of trust still amazes me. I’m not sure this system would work everywhere. I also love that these stations exist in the first place. There’s something quite grounding about the fact people still use the old-fashioned wringer. They are used by many and it was actually really busy. I filmed the shot of the empty station in the evening when we went back. What do you think about Finland’s rug washing stations? Do you or would you use them? #lifeinfinland #finnishthings #nordicstyle #suomi #suomitiktok

Whenever I go past one of these the smell is just so nostalgic. My grandma used to take me and my little sister to wash rugs all the time and had so much fun.

For those looking for the closest thing to the original traditional pine soap, I would strongly recommend Pirkka Pine Liquid Soap.
Unlike most modern alternatives, it contains only three ingredients: water, tall oil fatty acids and sodium hydroxide. No preservatives and no unnecessary additives.
Both Havu Pine Soap and Tolu Pine Cleaner contain preservatives, whereas Pirkka's formula remains remarkably simple. It is the closest match to the old environmentally friendly pine soaps that products like Havu used to be decades ago.
It is the most eco-friendly pine soap product currently sold in Finland and, as a bonus, it is usually cheaper than Havu Pine Soap.

You'd never in a million years think that washing carpets is fun😂 But it is. Truly, even for kids.

I skipped rug washing last year, but this year I was early and already did it last weekend. I love how fresh the whole house smells after thoroughly washing the carpets and mopping all the floors while the carpets are out drying.

This is often a foundational experience for Finnish children. You often go wash the rugs with your extended family and it's a lot of fun working with grandparents and aunts/uncles and cousins. If you get tired you take a break and go for a swim. Probably the main talkoo-like thing that has survived
