My mom would have been the person I called. That was literally my first thought at 3:52am. I was sitting on the nursery floor with my baby, completely exhausted, trying to get her back down for what felt like the hundredth time. She wasn’t even really crying anymore. She was just awake. Which somehow made it worse 😂 Because now we were both sitting there staring at each other like… so what exactly is the plan here?? I wanted to call my mom. Not because anything was wrong. Not because I needed her to come over. I just wanted another person awake with me. But obviously I wasn’t going to call her at almost 4 in the morning. So I didn’t. And I remember feeling weirdly sad about that. Motherhood has these moments where you desperately want someone, but you don’t want to bother anyone. Everyone always says “call me if you need anything!!” But am I really supposed to call you at 3:52am because the baby won’t sleep and I’m lonely? 😭 Probably not lol. So I grabbed my phone. Scrolled for a minute. Then opened this thing I’d found that shows moms who are awake. And there were lights ALL OVER the map. I actually zoomed out because I couldn’t believe how many there were. Different states. Different countries. Different time zones. Moms I will never meet. All awake. And immediately I started imagining what was happening behind those little dots. Someone nursing with one eye open. Someone pumping while watching a show she’s barely paying attention to. Someone making a bottle in the kitchen. Someone changing sheets after a diaper situation nobody should have to deal with before sunrise 😂 Someone rocking a baby who has apparently decided sleep is optional. Someone sitting on the floor just like me. Then I noticed a few moms had sent me hugs. California. England. People literally thousands of miles away. And I know it’s just a little button on a screen. But at 3:52am? It didn’t feel little. It felt like someone saying: hey. I see you. Still awake over here too. 💛 I didn’t need a conversation. I didn’t need anyone to tell me what to do. Honestly, the LAST thing I wanted at that moment was advice 😂 I just wanted another human to acknowledge that this part can be really freaking hard. That’s what I think people sometimes misunderstand about postpartum loneliness. It doesn’t necessarily mean you don’t have support. I have people I can call. I have people who love me. But those people have lives. They sleep. They work. And motherhood doesn’t exactly schedule the hard moments for convenient hours. Sometimes the moment you need someone is 3:52am. And there is something really comforting about knowing that somewhere out there, another mom needs someone at 3:52am too. Eventually my baby fell asleep. I sat there for another minute before putting her down. Then I sent a couple hugs back. To complete strangers. Which sounds kind of silly when I type it out 😂 But I don’t think I’ll forget how it felt. Because for a few minutes, a bunch of moms who couldn’t call the person they actually wanted… found each other instead #mom #baby #MomsofTikTok #momtok #momlife
