You don't need to trim the "natural" nail on your practice hand if you don't want to. You can just work on that, this is what I do for longer nails. Lastly, don't ever feel like you NEED an expensive hand to practice. If I'm being honest it looks nice, but if you're just wanting to learn they offer cheaper hands. At the end of the day, even a nice practice hand is not the same as a real person's hand. Ps.
