There was absolutely nothing like it, it was aggressive, it was relentless and it grabbed the attention of an entire generation who had never heard anything like it before. Dubstep had been building for years in the underground but Skrillex dragged it into the mainstream almost single handedly and this record was one of the biggest reasons why. It crossed over into pop culture, film trailers, TV, everywhere, and suddenly everyone knew what dubstep was. The music video matched the energy of the track perfectly and became just as iconic as the song itself, one of those rare cases where the visual and the audio feel completely inseparable. There was shitloads like it before Skrillex came along, caspa, Russo, Coki, 16 BIT, flux pavilion , dr p , chase and status , excision , datsik and more were on this sound years before. Skrillex got a lot of pr and was most people’s introduction to dubstep in America , but he was in no way the first to make it.
