The Hair Damage You Blame Might Not Be What Actually Caused It Sometimes, when we notice our hair becoming damaged, we immediately blame the first thing that comes to mind. The bleach, the color, the extensions or the last treatment. But what we often forget is that hair damage is usually the result of several habits happening at the same time. And sometimes, the least obvious habit is actually the one contributing the most to the damage. Let me explain through the experience of one of our beautiful clients. ❤️ 1️⃣ The Problem Started With The Hair Extensions One of the most important things anyone wearing extensions needs to understand is that your natural hair texture needs to match the texture of your extensions as closely as possible. Imagine having naturally frizzy or wavy hair while your extensions are extremely smooth, straight and silky. Every time you wash your hair, you’re dealing with two completely different textures. So what happens? You start constantly blow-drying, straightening and curling your natural hair just to make everything blend together. 2️⃣ The Damage Starts Adding Up 🔥 Now imagine repeating this styling routine for months, especially on hair that has already been bleached. You’re combining chemical damage with repeated heat exposure. Then add aggressive brushing, pulling and detangling in the shower and after washing. Before you know it, the breakage becomes severe, sometimes reaching much higher up the hair, closer to the roots. And all of this may have started because the natural hair was never properly prepared to match the extensions. 3️⃣ Preparing Your Hair Before Extensions Is Essential ✂️ Three things need to work together: ✅ Texture: Your natural hair and extensions should have compatible textures to minimize daily styling. ✅ Color: Both should match without constantly needing additional coloring or bleaching. ✅ Haircut: The natural haircut needs to connect properly with the extensions so everything blends beautifully. And most importantly, your natural hair needs to be healthy enough to support the extensions. Extensions should make your life easier, not create another reason to damage your hair every morning. 4️⃣ What If The Damage Is Already Severe? 🚨 When breakage reaches high up the hair, close to the roots, the situation becomes much more complicated. At this stage, my advice is simple: ❌ Remove the extensions. ❌ Stop bleaching and unnecessary coloring. ❌ Avoid flat irons, curling irons and excessive heat styling. ✅ Focus on cutting and treating. Cutting and treating. Severely damaged hair cannot simply be restored to its original condition with treatments. You need to gradually remove the compromised lengths while protecting the healthier hair growing from your roots. Depending on the severity, this process can take one year or even longer. 5️⃣ The Most Important Lesson ❤️ In this particular case, the extensions themselves were not necessarily the only problem. It was the combination of incompatible textures, constant styling, previously bleached hair and aggressive brushing. One problem created another, and then another. So when you’re trying to understand why your hair is damaged, don’t just look at the last thing you did to it. Look at everything you’ve been doing to it. Sometimes the solution isn’t changing one product or one treatment. It’s changing the entire routine that created the damage in the first place. #HairExtensions #HairExtensionDamage #HairDamage #DamagedHair #HairBreakage
