my theory is that Cyberpsychosis is actually an Arasaka program that is activated when an individual poses a threat to them, basically acting like a trojan virus because anyone who has a lot of chrome is bound to have at LEAST one piece of arasaka equipment inside them, whether they realise it or not. According to Regina’s side missions, this is mostly accurate. It seems cyberpsychosis is due to losing your sense of humanity with many implants. For some one implants could do it and for some it’s many. Personal trauma helps too.

i mean cyberpsychosis is definitely real, i think MaxTac and Adam are just high functioning, they get promise to better top of the line cybernetics the second theyre made and they have access to Arasaka’s private resources. i guarantee they have a pharmacy team that made ridiculous immuno blockers. also yes, im pretty sure lore stated that Adam was just as sadistic and twisted before he got his cybernetics

I’ve thought hard on this since I’ve seen and played my first time. I definitely agree with you. Just a way to shift blame. David is honestly the prime example. It wasn’t just a test run for the cyber skeleton for him. They knew he’d be a powerhouse just like smasher so they wanted to leash him up and control him like they did smasher.

You can see on the cyberpsychos that its real and although they were mostly sent "over the edge" by events heavy on the mind it was still caused by cyberware and the reason smasher is so in control of it is that there wasnt any humanity to waste away anyway and who knows if hes the one talking or its the cyberware/cyberpsychosis

I think that cyberpsychosis is real and is medical but it's more complicated than just saying "he had too much chrome" I think that there are many factors. First and most important one, the quality of the implant, megacorporations make more money by caring less about the quality. Easier to make, perfect profitability. Second, trauma at the same level as poverty. Poverty forces you to buy low quality implants and makes you slowly die and lose everything in Night City. Trauma is never treated and you just get along with it. That's what we can see in the gigs of Regina, Cyberpsychos are poor, have a lot of implants even if they are military grade and are traumatized for any reason. There is no cure since it's psychological issues and have to be treated before ant symptoms. Cyberpsychosis isn't about losing mind, it's about losing identity. You become just what you bought. A mindless machine.

Smasher is a Cyberpsycho though. Just one with the backing of an entire corp behind them. Mike Pondsmith himself confirmed as such by referring to him as a "High Functioning" Cyberpsycho. Heck even Johnny is shown to be on the verge of Cyberpsychosis and he only had a single metal arm that had no function past replacing the organic one he lost. 2077 also has Cyberpsychoes who succumbed to it after rapid, non-consensual modifications. Either by Maelstrom or as some sick prank for "content". Losing one's self amongst the Chrome is very much a major player when it comes to an individual exhibiting signs of Cyberpsychosis.

Its totally mental problem, human brain just cant handle the tranformation into machine, for some its 1 or 2 implants, some can handle more, some are uniques like Smasher, if he mentally agrees that hes more machine than a human its not a problem, i bet he is not alone in this, so far we only saw NC and it already has 3 cyberware legends, Martized is the weakest but still he could handle what 90% of others cant, V was immune thx to the chip, and Smasher who just accepts his cyberbody as a blessing, this concept is explained in WH40k universe, mechanicus accept their impants as a blessing of the machine god, the Omnisiah, so they rarely get mental breakdown due to implants.

Maybe what if like the corporations control the minds of people that have “too much chrome” but when V had so much chrome he had Johnny and his mind was shot so he technically is dead and Johnny is the one keeping him alive and that’s why cyber psychosis doesn’t get to him and it could explain Adam smasher because they would control his psychosis but idk
