My hands are perhaps not conventionally beautiful, but my husband tells me regularly that I have the most beautiful hands he’s ever seen; he says: “cause they MAKE stuff!” 😊 My hands are working hands that are constantly creating with clay and glazes most hours of any day. It can be very rough on hands and nails. And on top of it I have genetically short nails that I cut even shorter for working with clay (remember when Megan Fox’s toe-shaped thumbs got all that attention? You may not, but I do because she has the same stub thumb gene I have. 👍 ) Once in a while I get a comment on my posts that my hands and nails are ugly, and sometimes they add a barf emoji or a cringe emoji… ouch… 😕 But I really love my hands and I don’t want to ever be shy or scared about showing them to you because of an occasional rude comment. I’m so grateful to my hands for telling my stories, gardening, holding babies, cooking dinners, doing crafts, mending socks, … hands are truly AMAZING. Hiding my hands from you would definitely hamper my ability to share what I do… My heart smiles when someone makes a kind comment referencing the soulful beauty of the artist’s worn hands- those hands that are covered in clay or paint or stained with ink, transforming the mind’s imagination and creativity into something real. If you’ve ever had something you feel self-conscious about, join me in embracing it (and me giving you a thumbs up!) 🤗 ❤️ The video for today shows my hands and nails… and lavender plants pressed into clay, and the addition of a tiny bee sculpture. These are two of my favorite things in the garden- beautiful fragrant lavender with its intricately textured leaves, and the busy bee always hard at work. I admire the bee for its focus and determination and I find myself drawn to watch them in the garden. There are so many right now. As usual, this ceramic piece is sculpted by hand, colored, coated with ceramic glaze and fired in my kiln. The gold accent on the rim is real gold, applied by hand and also fired in the kiln in a separate process. #satisfying #pottery #artistsoftiktok
