@ntvkenya: Wave of Student Unrest Persists: The wave of school closures sweeping Kenya shows no sign of slowing down. Today, five more schools sent their students home. Basic Education PS Julius Bitok insists the academic calendar will stay intact. #NTVWeekendEdition
Yup, this was inevitable. The rigid schedules, food, overcrowded spaces, bullying, meaningless punishment, sleep deprivation, these are all intolerable. We need reforms!

bro it's not mob psychology it's a legitimacy crisis. Education in kenya is facing a legitimacy crisis PERIOD. A system is legitimate when people comply because they believe the system serves a meaningful purpose. A system loses legitimacy when people begin asking:
Is this fair?
Does this work?
Are the promised outcomes real?
Are the sacrifices justified?
In Kenya (like other African countries) education systems were built around colonial assumptions with core functions of producing civil servants. clerks and administrators, and supply labour for the modern economy, as well as sort & rank citizens through examinations. But today the gap between the official narrative and lived reality creates an education legitimacy crisis.
Today students are evaluating the return on investment of education and finding the evidence unconvincing.hence the riots. School system still operates as if good grades = good university = good job = good life.
But our students are observing, that
good = university high debts and struggles, future unemployment or underemployment.
Schools continue telling students a story about the future that they can directly falsify by looking at their own families. When schools administrators yell a story that contradicts lived experience, legitimacy lost, & once legitimacy erodes, compliance becomes increasingly dependent on surveillance, punishment, and coercion pattern is inherent in kenyan schools (mostry bording. AND THE CRISIS CONTINUES YEAR IN YEAR OUT.

These schools are extremely congested. Too many students are admitted there while many Sub-County and County schools remain virtually empty, desolate and broke. There used to be limits (quotas) to how many students got admitted in various schools. Why were they removed?
