@november.20: i just felt like i was thrown around different doctors having to tell the same story over and over and eventually those conversation didn’t lead me nowhere :( *sorry for a super long up one but ig has a 3-minute limit #netherlands #dutchdoctors #lifeinthenetherlands
There is a clinic in Amsterdam run by Olga Cooper, where Ukrainian specialists work. They accept insurance. You could contact them, and ask your GP to refer you there. I’m not sure if they have any available appointments right now, but it’s worth trying. Good luck

The worse is when they ask you "what do you want me to do?" I heard this from 3 different psychologists.

i feel like dutch health gp services in general are such a joke, i have a tendon issue which im getting surgery for but for months i felt like no one was helping me properly 😭 one time the gp receptionist was SO MEAN to me like genuinely because i was in pain. i will say though that if you are a minor, the mental health services are very quick and good imo, i went when i was a minor and they helped me a lot and gave me so much information and was able to get my adhd diagnosis.

Everything what you say is truth except the part of suicidal cases. My friends brother took he’s life, suicide line adviced to hide knifes and keep him in the room. He jumped from 12th floor building in Eindhoven, everyone tried to reach help before but nobody really bothered to actually help. Truth is that health care system is so overloaded and understaffed that mental health sector is totally forgotten and useless.

I’m dutch and I’m sorry for your experience. I did not have the best experience either until I had a good therapist. Its not an excuse but this is due to the government cuts for years now. I was literally told by the head doctor “you can’t be severely depressed bc you wear makeup and look pretty” mind you I could not do anything due to the lack of energy and feeling terrible. I would wear makeup to hide behind and it was one of the only things bringing me the slightest but of joy. I reported the clinic for unprofessionalism. The therapist + psychiatrist I got afterwards helped me well. I had to wait years for help and my dad had to beg several clinics on the phone bc he was afraid he was going to lose me

My GP was honest when I told him I have a psychiatrist in Egypt, he said continue with her and if she send me an email with the medication I will send it to the pharmacy and he was very helpful that way saved time and money.

I had an online session with the Ukrainian psychiatrist, she made diagnoses and prescribed me with pills. She made this paper with diagnoses and prescription in Ukrainian and English.

I do remember when I was depressed, I spoke first with my GP about it. He also offered me to speak with psychologist at their clinic. After our first session I was already sure that I won’t never speak to him. It was just a joke, man didn’t even take me seriously 😅Somehow I decided to consult with my psychiatrist in my homeland and then we consulted with GP about my diagnosis. So luckily, I got the medication from my GP and found a good psychologist from my country. In the end, everything turned out well, and I managed to overcome my depression. But of course, it’s best to take good care of your health and avoid getting sick in the Netherlands if you can 🤞🏻

I’m Romanian and living in the Netherlands. About a year ago, I started therapy, and I was strongly advised to do it in my native language. I did the same with my psychiatrist.
I have online sessions with my psychologist once a week and with my psychiatrist once every month or two. I simply send the medical reports and prescriptions to my GP. After the first few updates, it became very straightforward—my GP renews the prescription, and I pick it up at the nearest pharmacy.
It’s been very easy and has helped me a lot. You could consider this option too. Even if you speak English well, discussing personal feelings and mental health is often easier and more effective in your native language.

So the lowest eigen risiko is 385 euros per year. you having to pay over 800 euros means that you took a insurance package with increased eigen risiko at a slightly lower monthly fee. but in my opinion its never worth it to increase you eigen risiko. just go with the lowest posible so you have to pay less especially if you already know that u wil use your insurance. and you clearly did because of those long w8 times you mentioned.

If its possible get a psychiatrisch or phsycologist from your country!!! I had online sessions and my gp here just made the prescriptions and he only asked me for a letter from them to know about the situation. 1 year letter im already off my meds and was Definetly worth it!!

I actually heard the same story from a friend living in Germany 🫠 in the end she decided to see a psychiatrist privately or a “private psychiatrist” not through the public health system, as that was taking ages…

I came with all my medical records and the letter of my psychiatrist and the GP repeated the medication since then. Never had to go to a psychiatrist here. You can also ask for help in the municipality, they sent two professionals to my house as support. They came weekly and it's free.

Belgium. The situation is the same. I realized I needed help from a psychiatrist. I tried to make an appointment with doctors, but the earliest available slot was four months away. But my mental health couldn’t wait that long. So I turned to an online doctor who spoke my native language; he translated the report into English (AI works wonders). I simply took the report to my family doctor, and they prescribed everything for me in Belgium. The treatment is going well, and my insurance covers it.

Understand the struggle and I'm sorry for your experience. Waiting for a referral for an ERP therapist in the UK. Added to the waitlist beginning of the year. Been 6 months and they can't even give me an estimate of how long it'll be till the first appointment. Guess DIY therapy continues. Systems are entirely broken.

Luckily for me I live in the Netherlands and I had a Ukrainian therapist. I was her first client since she migrated to the Netherlands and she was the best therapist I ever had. I had a Dutch 3 years before and it honestly felt like I was in school & my symptoms just got worst. Since the Ukrainian therapist I don’t suffer with depression anymore.
