You had the right mentality, to answer your first question. Make sure you prime your machine along with that make sure your choke is on. Depending on the machine type. For example you got a craftsman. There alott of different machine types. But you only need to worry about yours which is a craftsman. Also no there is not suppose to be one string. That is an indicator that your string is too short. to make sure to get it back to two strings you must take it apart to restring it. Or you can go to the store to get an attachment that is already pre stringed. To make sure that doesnt happen again. Make sure you smack the bottom of the barrell of the rotator on the ground. There is a spring lock in that. Giving it the ability to extend out more string once you hit on the ground. Great job doing that for the first time. Sincerely an Owner of a landscaping company.
