Jake paid off his car 8 years ago and it's supposed to last until he's 65? Where is the logic here?

So if you want a new car after age 45 it must be purchased with all cash?

It’s stupid to buy cars in cash when rates are in the 3-4% range. Cash is better in the market getting 7% not being dumped into a depreciating asset that requires constant maintenance.

I'm 45 with $245k in student loans (been paying for 15 years), own two cars outright, and I have a mortgage of $172k.

I mean I am 40 have no consumer debt other then my mortgage, own 5 cars all full paid off and run. Have a bachelors and masters degree with no student loans. Typically only buy good used cars in cash maybe finance less then 10k rest in cash. Guess I am doing better than I thought.

Why pay down the student loans? Those die with you? I spend $200 a month against 67k. If I get hit by a bus tomorrow that money is my families. I have no other debt including car loan. I’m 41

I’m not planning on retiring- people save for retirement then retire and die a year later.
