He didn’t “almost wipe out” humanity there were other humans that could’ve killed him easier than Netero, the whole chimera ant arc was a test for the zodiacs, some of the 12 zodiacs were the same power level as Netero, and 2 of them were more powerful than Netero. The 12 zodiacs alone would’ve ended the chimera arc, ging alone could’ve soloed. It was all a test for gon. And paristron was a secret antagonist.

But the fact remains that meruem is stronger. Using the Dark Continent threat rankings to say the Calamities are automatically stronger than Meruem is misunderstanding what the rankings measure. The threat levels are based on humanity’s ability to survive, contain, and deal with a threat, not purely combat power. Meruem nearly conquered humanity in a matter of weeks despite being born recently, defeated the strongest Hunter alive, and required a miniature nuclear weapon to stop him. If Meruem had decades to expand the Chimera Ant species and develop further, his threat rating could have been drastically different. The Calamities are terrifying because they’re uncontrollable disasters, diseases, or supernatural phenomena, not necessarily because they’d win a straight fight against Meruem.

This is one of the most misinterpreted parts of the manga. Their “threat to wiping humanity” is B level threat. It’s B because there are creatures that would be more efficient in wiping out humanity. Not because they’re directly stronger than Meruem. I think the chimera ants are B because of their potential to reason with humanity like how Meruem did. His deal he offered Netero is proof that he wouldn’t wipe humanity out. If the circumstances were different. It’s entirely possible the king could have become something more willing to wipe them out. Meruem on the DC would definitely be more than fine, but there’s a lot we don’t know.

In hxh, meruem is classified at B-class not because he is weak. It's because he can still be neutralized using human means (e.g., The rose bomb). A-class is reserved for threats that cannot be neutralized using normal human means, like the 5 calamities from the dark continent.

This video contradicts itself tho. The scale thats used to compare dark continent threats is based on how much of an threat they would be to humanity. If Meruem is able to wipe out humanity, then he is highest level threat.
