@complex: I have so many questions 😳 ㅤ Scientists studying Ötzi the Iceman, a 5,300-year-old mummy discovered in the Ötztal Alps on the border of Austria and Italy, found cold-adapted yeast in his preserved gut microbiome and surrounding body tissues. ㅤ Ötzi is believed to have died after being struck by an arrow to the back, which caused a fatal injury more than 5,000 years ago. His body was then naturally frozen in ice and remained exceptionally well preserved until it was discovered in 1991 by German hikers in South Tyrol. ㅤ According to research published in the journal Microbiome by an Italy-based team at Eurac Research, scientists isolated and cultured some of the yeast in low-temperature laboratory conditions.
