If I get 3% per year, why stay after 1 year when the next job with pay you more right now ?

Jobs no longer have retirement plans. No reason to stay anymore

Most companies really don’t want people working there forever. They’d rather just train someone new and pay them less.

the reason it's 2 years now is because I can stay and get a 3 percent raise or leave and get a 30 percent. no incentive to be loyal when they'll let you quit over the raise and spend fifty grand to bring in a new hire plus pay them more than you were making

A year? How about 2% total in the last 3 years and promotions with no pump in salary. 🤨

No pensions, less telework, ITS Pars and less merit increases. Add it all together and the sum is no loyalty. Companies will pay for continuous recruiting and onboarding.

It goes both ways though and ends up being a what came first kind of thing. If businesses read the room and see employees job hopping, why would they invest more in them? But if they did, would job hopping decline? Who knows.

We have to flip the paradigm on companies. Right now they have zero incentive to pay people more or invest in the nation. Profits for a company is in reality unpaid wages. Till we make the tax so heavy handed on residual profits nothing will change.

Shoot. At the university I work at I’m not eligible for a raise until my 6th year review.

New hires can often make more that longer term employees, why stay

I’m fine with a yearly increase if it was more than 2% even if you’re killing all of your goals.

I haven’t had an increase in pay in over a year… it doesn’t even offset the health insurance increase when we did get them.

I was told so many times "we expected you to exceed our expectations, which is why you're getting a 'Meets Expectations' on your performance review".

Vesting has to change. I truly believe if companies lay someone off it should legally force 100% vesting of grants and 401ks.

Job hopping used to be a good move but honestly these days I think if I got laid off from my current job I don't think I'd ever find another. The job market is garbage.
