If you think you can run a frontier model on a single dgx spark in a heat throttled laptop form factor by December I have some bridge options to sell you

Yes and no. Yes, a half way normal Apple laptop from 2023 will already run qwen3.6 and models like it (20gb rss), so yes, we can do that now, but, they are a little slow. But no, an m5 ultra announced tomorrow at 6k or so will just feel better. And at 6k, this is a little high for most people, but not the top 5%. The trick is we want an iq 130 machine at $2k, not quiet there yet, and nothing nvidia is doing changes that. Their machine is a pale shadow compared to the m5 ultra. Now, a 5090 class with 128gb at 2k, for the whole machine, now we’re talking, but, not there, yet. In a year’s time, yes. Just not now. 😳 Ask me how I know.

Do you genuinely believe this? If so, how can OpenAI, Anthropic and spaceX be valued anywhere near $1tn? The argument that everyone will have access to good enough mode for free on the laptop within 6month crushes most of their business model surely? Ai would be less like a commodity delivered by then in such case

Data centers are the telegraph industry of old, will be obsolete in 6 months. I’ll have a Jane jewel in my ear by the end of the decade.

I wouldn’t call this an attack on apple. Apple isn’t chasing this use case actively, but they are implementing an nvidia free ecosystem that doesn’t need a super massive ai cloud. So nvidia needs to have a play for that world too

Why isn't Ai running all of the tech support call centers yet? Why isn't it taking my order when I call pizza hut to order, etc? Seems like it'd be so easy and feasible to implement in both of those

imo, Claude is overmarketed. Kimi k2.6. model is the same performance as sonnet 4.6, it just hallucinates more.

Local models need to get a lot better and meta is moving away from open source, others will too. Local models will get regulated and become more rare. Laptops are long way from running the largest llm’s and further from image gen. I have a home server, best case, with Remote Desktop, and the models still don’t compete. But that’s the only way you using local models on a laptop.

M4 and M5 are very friendly AI chips that you can find in Mac laptops, It is good to have other options and Nvidia is a copy cat of apple regarding this matter

Not sure if I agree with this, only because if this is the case why are these frontier companies at $1T valuations and rising?

If that’s true, then perhaps the data centre model is about to collapse. Will there still be the need for infinite data centres?
