This historic building is situated on a hilltop, offering a panoramic view of almost the entire city of Zhob and its surrounding areas . Today it also houses the office of commissioner. One of the most remarkable features of Sandeman Castle is that, despite the passage of more than a century, its original architecture, structural design, and historical character have remained largely preserved. The castle still houses numerous historical artifacts, pieces of furniture, and relics from the colonial period, further enhancing its historical significance. During the British era, Major Barnes served here as an important political officer. He introduced various administrative measures aimed at the development of Zhob and sought to establish relations with the local population. However, according to local traditions, some of his decisions led to public dissatisfaction. A well-known local account states that Sher Jan Kakar became deeply upset with Major Barnes over deductions made from workers’ wages, and this dispute ultimately resulted in the killing of Major Barnes. Today, statues of Major Barnes and Sher Jan Kakar stand within the grounds of Sandeman Castle as memorials to this historic event.
